I recently worked with a wonderful woman, who in her late sixties decided to have her colours done, again... She told me as we sat down that she had them done a very long time ago and was told she was a...
Winter! In my line of business, I have learned that everyone would like to be a Winter because Winters get to wear black as a neutral. So, my client was terrified that I was going to take that away from her - she suspected that she was not, actually, a Winter at all, because she knew something was amiss with her image - she just didn't know what. When I use the word "terrified", I mean fear had set in because of how potentially this new information was potentially going to change everything for her and her wardrobe.
Before we even started the process, we enjoyed a series of conversations to prepare her. However, her fear was dampering her excitement. She saw it as a potential loss rather than a re-affirmation of what she already knew about herself. As is turned out, she IS a Winter - what had to change is something she had already been complaining about: her blond hair colour. What a liberating event for my client because she knew something wasn't right, and now she knows what is was.
To sum up the changes for her, it was her hair and then some colours she had moved away from because her hair had gone from black in her youth to now a beautiful salt and pepper. Part of my colour analysis process involves looking at a client's hair and make-up along with clothing to ensure that all the components mirror and harmonize together. I was able to get the client into the salon that same afternoon and alter her hair to better suit, naturally what her hair would look like if it hadn't had anything added to it. The results are incredible and she feels so much better. As a bonus, all her Winter-palette clothes look much better on her now.
I am always amazed at how much clients can tap into themselves about what is right and what is not quite right. This client knew something was amiss. What the colour analysis process does is provide concrete proof of the what and the why and then provides a firm guide for the client to purchase what looks best on him/her.
